Man arrested for spitting is not too pleased about it
1/30/2013Joseph Stoiber’s arrest last May is a civil libertarian's dream. Unable to sleep, he walked around his Lakeland, Fla., neighborhood talking to a friend on the phone around 2:30 a.m. That’s when a cop, Tyler Anderson, confronted him. Seeing a bulge -- that turned out to be a wallet, can of snuff and keys -- he asked to pat-down Stoiber, who refused. Anderson frisked him anyway, and Stoiber, who had been chewing tobacco, spit on the sidewalk. He was then arrested for violating a law from 1944 banning spitting in public. Stoiber complained about his arrest, and Anderson and another officer were later disciplined. [Source]
