Return of regular NFL refs can't take the brutality out of this hit
9/28/2012Players might feel safer with the regular NFL referees back in place, but pro football is still a scary proposition. Josh Cribbs has a concussion today and an uncertain status for the immediate future after absorbing the most frightening hit of the season from the Ravens' Dannell Ellerbe that left the Browns punt returner unconscious before he hit the ground. Cribbs eventually left the field on his own power, and there was no penalty for the hit, which was deemed legal because Cribbs wasn't a "defenseless" player. But the refs did put a quick end to a scuffle after the play so that no more damage was done. [Source]
