Judge bans reckless teen from driving. For life.
3/5/2012Lyle Topa could spend the rest of his life sitting in other people's passenger seats, calling cab companies and thumbing rides. Rhode Island judge William Guglietta sentenced the 17-year-old Topa to a lifetime driving ban, after Topa crashed while racing another car -- an accident that left Topa's three teen passengers with serious injuries. "I've had it," Guglietta said, according to the Boston Herald. "The time has come for a change in attitude towards our young people driving."
Although Topa had several prior infractions, some think the ban was too harsh. "What's he going to do, bike for the rest of his life?" Massachusetts senator Bob Hedlund asked.
