Julie Andrews admits golden singing voice has been silenced for good

12/6/2012

Not supercalifragilistic news: Julie Andrews says her crystal-clear singing voice, with its spectacular four-octave range, is gone for good, thanks to a botched 1997 operation to remove throat nodules. Sure, she can muster a few low notes, possibly a solid "Old Man River," but she's abandoned all hope of making the hills come alive again with the sound of music. Reassuring fans that she's found a new voice through writing books and directing theater, Andrews (in her best Maria von Trapp imitation) notes, "When one door closes, another window opens." Spoons full of sugary praise also helped the bad news go down on Twitter. One fan wrote that Andrews' voice "may not come back, but it will never be forgotten!" [Source]
