Speaker at city council meeting goes long, cops shut her up with cuffs

10/30/2012

The Riverside (Calif.) City Council takes their agenda seriously. When speaker Karen Wright exceeded her allotted three minutes of talking time, the 60-year-old was handcuffed and charged with disrupting a public meeting. In this video, an already-cuffed Wright shouts that she "physically can't get up" without using her hands and someone attending the meeting can be heard yelling "Stop!" Mayor Ron Loveridge said that long-winded speakers frequently receive a warning, but he didn't think any had been handcuffed in the 32 years he'd been in office. "She’s not obviously a security threat," Loveridge said. "That is a judgment the police officers made." [Source]
