Kenyans tweet-bomb airline after ad calls them 'primitive'

6/19/2012

In what century would you expect to read a description of Kenyans as indigenous people full of "primitive energy"? You don't have to dig up some explorer's dusty old tome -- this wording was in Korean Air's latest online advertisement. By trying to elicit excitement about its latest route to Nairobi, the airline has instead enraged an entire nation. Naturally, folks on Twitter are all over the #primitiveenergy hashtag. @Yafesi_Musoke tweets, "Korean Air caught me on a bad day. My sisal skirt won't be dry enough in this weather! Darn. *climbs tree*"

The airline has apologized and removed the ad. Its PR spokesman in Kenya told the Associated Press it was simply a case of poor translation.
