Soccer players pull the plug on match after fans' racist abuse

1/3/2013

The concept of the soccer "friendly" took another hit Thursday when some relentlessly boorish fans of the fourth-tier Italian club Pro Patria spoiled a good time for their fellow spectators and made things considerably worse on a few AC Milan players. Twenty-six minutes into the exhibition match, Milan star Kevin-Prince Boateng got so tired of the racial abuse he and a few teammates were receiving that he drilled the ball toward the stands and stripped off his uniform, leading his team off the pitch. Other Pro Patria fans directed catcalls toward the blockhead section, but the game was over. Said Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri, "We need to stop these uncivilized gestures." [Source]
