News happening on the news is always awkward, particularly in a carefully controlled studio environment. So, on Friday, the bug-eyes among the morning news team at KIII-TV in Corpus Christi, Texas, were understandable when a house explosion rattled their studio live on the air. Despite occurring almost two miles away, the shockwave of the blast shook the rafters when it occurred during the 5:30 a.m. weather report. It must be said: Anchors John Thomas and Jane Monreal and meteorologist Kristin Diaz recovered nicely. Though the blast destroyed three homes and damaged about 70 others, only two people were reportedly injured.
