Detroit couple's supercheap dream house accidentally demolished
1/7/2013Two artists who snagged a two-story house for a bargain $500 at a tax auction thought it would be wise to board up their investment to keep it safe from vandals. But when Kristine Diven and Micho "Detronik" McAdow went to the property on Detroit's East Side, they discovered the house had become a pile of rubble. It had been demolished, along with 11 other properties, by Michigan's Land Bank Fast Track Authority because of a clerical error. The house should never have been auctioned because it was a "blight." The artists have been refunded their $500 and offered a replacement house from a list of empty city-owned properties, but Diven says they're nothing like "the jewel" she had bought. [Source]
