Savvy burglars reportedly targeted homes with newspapers on hold

1/31/2013

You probably wouldn't dream of bragging about your vacation on Facebook, advertising to the world that your house is empty. But did you consider that vacation hold you placed on your newspaper subscription? Cops have arrested four men on suspicion of burglarizing 25 or more homes that had placed holds on their LA Times deliveries over the past three years. Detectives suspect that a guy contracted to fix office machinery for an LA Times distributor was swiping the hold lists and passing them on to three accomplices. The men then allegedly broke into the homes, making off with $1 million worth of loot, including collectible swords, musical instruments and the usual computers and jewelry. [Source]
