Newspaper that Armstrong sued over doping claims wants its money back
12/23/2012Lance Armstrong might soon find himself on the hook for $1.5 million. Back in 2004, the disgraced cyclist sued the U.K.'s Sunday Times for libel when it reprinted claims made in a book that he took performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong received a $485,000 settlement. Now that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has concluded that Armstrong did indeed lead a massive cheating program, the Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper wants its cheddar back, plus interest and costs. And if they win, Lance will likely have to cough up at least a six-figure settlement. He's going to have to invent another colored wristband to sell — and quick. Because this isn't the first time someone has asked Armstrong for their money back. [Source]
