Lance gives up, but his donors are still fighting cancer
8/26/2012Lance Armstrong may be losing seven Tour de France titles, but he's gaining do-gooders. The day after the bicycling great finally gave up the fight to defend himself against charges that his career was boosted by the use of performance-enhancers and sport's drug police moved to strip him of his victories, donations to his charities surged – from $3,200 on a normal day to more than $78,000 on Friday. Individual donors increased almost tenfold, and merchandise sales more than doubled. Looks as if Armstrong's inspirational good name carries more weight than whether he was just the best drug cheat in a sport rife with them. [Source]
