Landlord faces penalty for 'White Only' sign at apartment pool

Today’s OMG moment comes courtesy of Jamie Hein, a Cincinnati landlord who, during Memorial Day weekend in 2011, placed a sign on the pool of the duplex she manages that read “Public Swimming Pool, White Only.” The target of the sign was the black 10-year-old daughter of Michael Gunn, a tenant at the apartment complex; Hein claimed the girl’s hair clogged the pool drain. Last fall, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission ruled that Hein, who is white, had discriminated against Gunn’s daughter. On Friday, Gunn testified before the commission in a hearing to determine whether he can seek further penalties, including compensatory damages, from Hein. [Source]
