Until then, enjoy the latest awkwardness of private messages getting a wider audience than intended. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman, worried that it would appear they weren't cracking down hard enough on baby-rabbit trafficking in the city's fashion district, emailed officers to "make a few arrests for illegal animal purchasing so we can avoid negative coverage." Except, yes, reporters received the email, too. Cmdr. Andrew Smith insisted he wasn't advocating policing for the camera, but simply issuing a "gentle nudge" to officers to enforce the law.
