Astronomers say universe's biggest known object shouldn't exist

1/12/2013

The universe is big, and in that vastness, astronomers say they've discovered the largest "structure" ever found within the massive void we're all swirling around in. An object called a large quasar group has been found that measures 4 billion light years at its widest point. For comparison, our own galaxy, the Milky Way, measures 100,000 light years across. Even more puzzling to astronomers is the theory that objects this large shouldn't exist in the universe. Calculations have suggested that objects larger than 1.2 billion light years shouldn't exist. Looks like this new behemoth might have researchers double checking their math. [Source]
