Larry Ellison, really rich guy, buys his own Hawaiian island
6/21/2012There's "Mitt Romney rich," and then there's "Larry Ellison rich." Romney rich is firmly 1 percent territory. But Ellison rich? That's like .01 percent land, as in, "I'm buying a Hawaiian island." Reports had been floating that the Oracle co-founder and CEO (and third-richest man in America) was interested in snapping up the island of Lanai. (Bill Gates was also reportedly interested.) Today Ellison agreed to buy 98 percent of the island (the state of Hawaii owns the other two percent). It's not known how much he paid, but reports had put the price around $500 million, which can't even buy a really good soccer team these days.
How do you feel about the sale?
