The #thirdpartydebate is now doing opening statements, which are actually partwaythrough statements at this point.

Oops: Opening statements almost forgotten at third-party debate

10/24/2012

There was another presidential debate on Tuesday evening in Chicago between third-party candidates Jill Stein (from the Green Party), Gary Johnson (Libertarian Party), Virgil Goode (Constitution Party) and Rocky Anderson (Justice Party). Although moderated by CNN's Larry King, the debate was much less formal than any of Obama and Romney's. This was most obvious 20 minutes and three questions into the debate, when the candidates pointed out they hadn't yet been given the chance to deliver their opening statements. Oops. While some on Twitter didn't mind the loss of "generic" opening speeches, others saw the mishap as evidence of the debate's irrelevance. King blamed the mix-up on his notes, which apparently didn't include anything about opening statements: "I follow my notes. I'm a Jewish guy from Brooklyn so I do as I'm told," he joked.
