LA's 'Carmageddon' may have caused a baby boom

4/11/2012

Forty weeks after construction on I-405 basically shut down half of LA, obstetricians are wondering if "carmageddon" resulted in an unexpected baby boom. At least one set of expecting parents became pregnant over that weekend after four years of trying, and NBC4 reports that prenatal classes in the area are fuller than is typical. "When people relax -- whether they are vacationing or the freeway is closed down -- they have more of a chance than when everybody's stressed out," one obstetrician says, adding that babies conceived over that weekend would have been due around April 9. Would-be parents who failed to take advantage of last year's forced stay-cation will have another shot this summer, when the I-405 shuts down again.
