When it comes to sports betting, loyalty is rarely rewarded with big payouts. You might love your team more than your mother, but your blind devotion is often a hindrance when it comes to betting. Mark 2012 as the exception — The Year of the Fan (gambling ones, anyway), much to the frustration of Vegas sports books. The recently concluded NFL regular season was a boon for loyal fans, for whom betting on their favorite (and favored) teams paid off — inflicting a "staggering" financial hit on Sin City sports books, a hot streak so flammable that it was one of the worst years in recent memory for bookies.
