Florida mom pays salary for armed guard at child's school herself

1/22/2013

A mother in Flagler Beach, Fla., is taking it upon herself to make sure an armed guard is posted at her child's elementary school. Laura Lauria will be paying $32 an hour through the end of the year to keep an armed deputy on the grounds of Old Kings Elementary School. The county has four deputies split among several other schools, but none are dedicated full time to Old Kings. Lauria has already paid two months of the deputy's salary and made a verbal agreement to pay for the remainder of the year. Superintendent Janet Valentine said, "I don't know how you say no to such a wonderful gesture." [Source]
