Series of hospital mistakes leaves single mom with six months to live
1/7/2013A tragic series of oversights and failures to follow up on reports has left Laverne Wilkinson of Brooklyn with only six months to live. She has Stage 4 lung cancer. It's believed that if doctors had followed up on the two-centimeter nodule found in an X-ray of the single mom's right lung during a 2010 visit to Kings County Hospital, her cancer might have been treatable. The cancer has now metastasized to her liver, spine and brain. The debacle is even more heartbreaking because Wilkinson is the sole caregiver for her severely retarded and autistic 15-year-old daughter. A lawsuit is in process. [Source]
