Lawmaker to Mexico: Pay Texas for illegals

Texas lawmaker Lyle Larson is looking for payback. He's demanding billions of dollars from Mexico to pay for services rendered to illegal immigrants living in the Lone Star state. In late March, Larson went as far as dashing off a personal letter to Mexican President Felipe Calderón, urging him to compensate Texas up to $8 billion a year. Larson didn't stop there. If Mexico can't pay up, the San Antonio Republican suggests a backup plan: Allow U.S. companies to move in and develop mineral-rich areas of northern Mexico and use those resources as in-kind payment. No word yet how seriously Calderón is taking Larson's modest proposal.
