Lawmaker's button mix-up was a big fracking mistake
7/4/2012The practice of fracking is now legal in the state of North Carolina, all because state representative Becky Carney (D-Mecklenburg) accidentally voted for it. See, Carney meant to hit the red "nay" button on her polling machine when a vote to override Gov. Bev Perdue's current veto of the fracking legislation came to the floor. Uh, oops. Carney's "aye" vote was the deciding one that cleared the way for the bill to be turned into a law. Carney tried to change her vote after realizing the mistake but House Speaker Thom Tillis allowed it to stand as is, saying, "There's a green button and a red button. They should know which one to push." Happy fracking, guys!
Do you think she should have been allowed to correct her vote?
