Lawn mower races kick grass for the equinox
3/20/2012Fire up those John Deeres. The U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association is celebrating the first day of spring and "20 years of sod slinging" with open races across the nation. USLMRA president Bruce Kaufman (known in grass-cutting circles as "Mr. Mow It All") reflects fondly on his first race two decades ago: "I didn't sleep for days, hoping somebody -- anybody -- would show up. They did." The association's website lists "Mow Town" race locations, rules and even instructions for (gulp!) building your own mower.
