Ban lifted on women in combat. Now all we need to do is fight for equality in jobs that don't involve getting shot at. http://t.co/mFJGxhGD

Ban on women in combat removed, but fight for equal pay goes on

1/23/2013

On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ended the military ban that prevented women from serving on the front lines of combat. The decision was made at the request of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and effectively does away with a 1994 rule that prevented women from fighting in small ground combat units. The various branches of the military will have until 2016 to determine if there are any other posts that should remain off-limits to women. Reaction to the news on social media was mixed; some folks noted that although women can now have the privilege of getting shot on the front lines, they still have to fight for necessities like equal pay in the workplace.
