Group asks Hagel to show support for LGBT service members1/5/2013
If President Obama really wants his man, he'd better be willing to fight for him. News that former Sen. Chuck Hagel is expected to be nominated for secretary of defense is being met with stiff opposition, particularly from LGBT groups. For good reason: As a senator in 1998, Hagel famously opposed a Clinton nominee for being "aggressively gay." He apologized last month for the comments. However, OutServe-SLD, the leading group for LGBT service members, issued a statement Friday requesting Hagel "lay out demonstrable actions" of support for LGBT service members and their families. Allyson Robinson, the group's executive director, said it would be up to Hagel to show how he would demonstrate his support. [Source]
