Like sex for your brain, music can literally change your mind
5/27/2012Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll have something in common -- besides being a mantra for guys with mullets -- they release dopamine, our body's most potent reward. In other words, from Mozart to Metallica, music physically changes our brain, and scientists are pondering its potential for therapy. For example, humans are the only primates who respond to a beat (think soldiers marching), and this innate sense of movement can be used to help Parkinson's patients improve their walking. The dark side of musical influences? "Ear worms," those ditties you may not even LIKE but can't seem to get out of your head, (Never gonna give you up! Never gonna let you down!), which in some cases could have to be medicated with anti-anxiety drugs.
What song gives you the biggest rush?
