When soccer superstar Lionel Messi fired a low drive into the corner of the net for Barcelona on Sunday, it was one for the history books. The Argentinian forward set a new record for the most goals scored in a calendar year — an astonishing 86 in total for club and country. Messi tied the previous record, held by German Gerd Mueller since 1972, after 16 minutes of Barcelona's game against Real Betis and then passed it nine minutes later.
