Listen to the best song of the last 60 years
6/23/2012The best song of the last 60 years is Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart," British music mag NME declares, and the living members of the band recently spoke about the conflicting emotions that come with the honor. The band's lead singer, Ian Curtis, committed suicide before the band's 1980 North American tour, but drummer Stephen Morris said he "honestly didn't realize" that Curtis was singing about himself when singing lyrics like "just can't function no more." Bassist Peter Hook said the "cute little pop song" sends a "shiver down my spine" to hear now, and guitarist Bernard Sumner said the band didn't talk about the meaning of their songs. We have a good idea why.
