Little League decides not to ban boy in wheelchair from dugout

7/26/2012

Evan Sussman, 12, has been sitting in his Brewster, N.Y., Little League team’s dugout for the past three years even though he uses to a wheelchair due to his cerebral palsy. This past weekend, a tournament official told him that he had to get out, and Little League International heartlessly backed the overly officious administrator up, saying that anybody in the dugout had to play in at least 60 percent of the team’s games. Eventually, somebody over at Little League International came to their senses, however, and decided to not worry about the bylaws. Sussman was happily back in the dugout Wednesday after he threw out the ceremonial first pitch in the game against West Nyack. The Brewster team lost the game, but they celebrated a different kind of win. [Source]
