Farmers using llamas to spit in the face of countryside crime

8/6/2012

If you're a farmer whose livelihood is threatened by theft, put your guard dog out to pasture and enlist a guard llama instead. A recent survey found that a rising number of British farmers use the cranky South African spitters to chase away thieves. The skyrocketing rate of rural crime is also being combated with guard geese (and if you've ever encountered a bad-tempered goose at a picnic, you know how terrifying they can be). Llamas are already used to protect livestock in the western U.S., where they've proven to be skilled at scaring off coyotes. [Source]
