Lonesome dolphin could be victim of marine gang bullying

5/1/2012

Not even the playful world of dolphins is immune from nasty accusations of bullying. A lonesome dolphin paddling around California's Bolsa Chica wetlands drew concerns of bullying after an "aggressive" gang of dolphins prevented him from leaving the channel. Marine rescue specialist Peter Wallerstein suggested the poor dolphin was "scared," "intimidated" and "bullied" -- but before anyone charges down to the wetlands to give those mean marine thugs a piece of their mind, dolphin expert Dennis Kelly has come out swinging in their defense, saying dolphins aren't really capable of bullying and the gang was probably just reacting to their pal's bizarre decision to keep swimming around the channel when he had the whole ocean to explore.
