California mom jailed for letting her kids cut class
10/3/2012Getting kids up and off to school in the morning is a pain in the butt, and a Hanford, Calif., mom who couldn't manage it will be spending 180 days in jail. Lorraine Cuevas' two kids missed a total of 116 days of school at Monroe Elementary last year, violating the state’s chronic truancy law, which carries a maximum penalty of a year in prison and a $2,000 fine. Some parents think the judge should have been harsher, especially since Cuevas, 34, ignored multiple official warnings. As for the kids? With Mom in jail, they're actually turning up to class — so much for responsible adults. [Source]
