Los Angeles set to weed out hundreds of pot shops
7/25/2012Who would have thought 900 pot shops was too many? Los Angeles City officials, apparently. Moves are afoot to close down hundreds of medical marijuana dispensaries after Los Angeles City Council voted 14-0 to weed out more than 700 "clinics." According to reports, medical marijuana advocates at the meeting were not impressed with the ban, which will take effect in about 45 days, pending the mayor's sign-off. Those for the ban say the stores lower the tone of neighborhood and drive away business. People with chronic illness and their carers would still be allowed to grow medical marijuana, but those against the ban say it would see a return to sick people having to get their medicine via the black market.
