Low incomes don’t deter young smartphone buyers
2/21/2012It seems young people would rather eat ramen than go without a smartphone. A new Nielsen study of 20,000 people shows that among 18- to 24-year-olds, 56 percent of those making less than $15,000 a year still owned a smartphone, though in some cases, Mom and Dad might be paying either the phone bill or all the kid's bills. Older folks were less likely to own smartphones than younger people in every income bracket, Mashable reports. When it comes to wants and needs, clearly smartphones fall into the category of necessities among young people - just imagine what owning an old flip phone would do to a reputation.
