Major League Soccer is cutting ties with the Boy Scouts

7/22/2012

With soccer steadily gaining popularity among younger U.S. demographics, the strategic partnership between Major League Soccer and the Boy Scouts of America seemed to make perfect sense. However, almost as soon as the deal was done, it looks like it is over. The MLS announced today that it would not continue working with the BSA past the 2012 season for “a variety of business reasons.” The MLS’ decision comes on the heels of an announcement from the BSA that it would continue its longstanding policy of excluding homosexuals. Although the MLS has not cited that as the cause for ending their partnership, the soccer organization also holds ties to several gay rights groups. Even if the MLS stays silent, it looks like someone has to earn a merit badge in tolerance before they can get back on the field. [Source]
