Major leaguers totally freaked out by thunder

7/9/2012

The Texas Rangers may have an explosive offense, but they can't compare to Mother Nature. Massive thunder chased the team and its Sunday rival, the Minnesota Twins, from the field in the top of the fourth when lightning hit north of the stadium. Twins base runner Josh Willingham went down on all fours, while first-base coach Jerry White hid behind the umpire. "I thought I was a spirit; I thought I was dead," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. But perhaps Rangers center fielder Denard Span had the answer. During the ensuing rain delay, he tweeted, "That's the loudest noise I've ever heard. I thought Jesus was comin!" The Lord was apparently rooting for Texas: The Rangers won 4-3 in 13.
