Male jurors mostly think the fat lady did it, says weighty study

1/11/2013

If you're an overweight woman defending your innocence in court, your goose is most likely cooked, sorry. A study by Yale psychologists showed 471 pretend jurors four images of people — a large male and female, and a slim male and female — who were described as defendants in a case of check fraud. The "jurors" were then asked to rate the defendants' guilt on a five-point scale. The male jurors were "significantly more likely" to presume the larger female defendant guilty — but not the larger male defendant. The skinny male jurors were the most damning, presuming larger women to be "repeat offenders." [Source]
