America's new oldest woman dies at age 114

1/6/2013

It was before the Wright Brothers invented the airplane or Einstein gave us the theory of relativity that Miss Mamie Rearden was born. Of Baptist faith, the kind-hearted South Carolina woman led a humble life, working first as a schoolteacher and then as the mother of 11 for decades without any special accolades. That is, until December, when an elderly Iowa woman died, making Mamie the oldest woman in America at age 114. The southern belle held the proud title for 16 days until this week, when she too passed on, passing the torch to a new "oldest woman" and leaving Twitter users wishing her well. [Source]
