Man acquitted of assault after punching pedophile priest

7/6/2012

Vigilante justice seems to be having a healthy run within the U.S. courts these days. First, there was the dad who killed a man he caught sexually assaulting his daughter. Now, the California man who beat up a priest he said molested him and his brother has been found not guilty of felony assault. William Lynch told a San Jose jury he went to Jerry Lindner's retirement home to get a signed confession. However, when his ex-tormentor "looked up and leered," Lynch said he snapped and socked the priest in the face. Lynch has accused the Jesuit of raping him during a family camping trip when he was 7 years old; the prosecution conceded that Lindner did molest Lynch, but the argument that vigilantism can't be tolerated clearly failed.
