Man allegedly used publicized keycard lock hack to rob hotel room

At a July hacker conference, software developer Cody Brocious demonstrated how he could open any Onity keycard lock, used by many hotels around the world, with a simple and cheap homemade device. Brocious said he did so to raise awareness of the security flaw. Fast forward a few months and Matthew Allen Cook is arrested for robbing a Hyatt hotel room in Houston, after he allegedly hacked the keycard lock using the same method. There are unconfirmed reports there have been similar hotel break-ins in Houston and it remains to be seen how this potentially widespread security flaw will be addressed.
