It's been a difficult few years for a mother in Raleigh, N.C.: a messy divorce, a 4-year-old with bullying issues, a 6-year-old with Asperger's and ADHD, and a college-age child who had to abandon school for a year. Still, she tries to treat them to a night out every Friday, though she often has to apologize to fellow diners for her noisy children. But a man at a neighboring table at a Pizza Hut in Durham was more impressed than irritated with the woman's parenting efforts. So as he paid his bill, he also paid hers and left a gift card for future use. But it was the three-page note he wrote on paper he bummed from their server that left both the mother and the waitress in tears. See if his words don't touch you, as well.
"I do not know your back story, but I have had the privilege of watching you parent your children for the past 30 minutes. I have to say thank you for parenting your children in such a loving manner.
"I have watched you teach your children about the importance of respect, education, proper manners, communication, self control, and kindness all while being very patient. I will never cross your path again but am positive that you and your children have amazing futures.
"Keep up the good work and when it starts to get tough do not forget that others may be watching and will need the encouragement of seeing a good family being raised. God bless! — Jake"
