Manatees in Fort Lauderdale throw a sweet beach party

5/8/2012

Sea cow beach party, y'all! Beachgoers in Florida got the surprise of a lifetime when a group of playful manatees took over the shallow waters of Fort Lauderdale Beach. Craig Hossack initially mistook the sea cows for seaweed, but quickly realized this was more than just floating foliage when the group started sticking their snouts up out of the water, so he started filming the scene. Hossack said the group was made up of a mother with four or five calves that were all jockeying for a good suckling position. The manatees frolicked and mingled with waders for about 30 minutes before finally making their way back out to deeper water.
