Scary mangled manta rays wash up on Gaza beach, folks eat them anyway

2/28/2013

No one knows why 220 mangled manta rays washed up on a Gaza City beach this week or what killed them, but local fishermen weren't looking a gift fish in the mouth. They promptly sliced them up, loaded them onto carts and took them to market to sell as food. One fisherman said rays used to migrate to the area regularly each March, but hadn't been seen there in six years. Importing them from Egypt had proven pricey. "But today God provides them for us here," he said, adding, "God willing there will be more tomorrow." Here's hoping the rays God has provided are safe for consumption. [Source]
