Weed can help war vets manage post-traumatic stress disorder, docs say

2/8/2013

Stoners' pleas to legalize marijuana are nothing new, but doctors and nurses are now praising pot as the magic bullet to help war veterans deal with post-traumatic stress disorder. Medical community members testified at an Oregon Senate hearing Thursday for a bill that would allow PTSD sufferers to light up, saying it's the best drug to successfully treat it. "We have failed to find any medications at this point that provide consistent benefits," said one psychiatric nurse practitioner, describing how weed soothes anxiety, helps with sleep and calms suicidal urges. Veteran Jose Garza agreed, telling lawmakers, "I'm not a hippie, I'm not a stoner, I'm not a criminal. I'm a United States veteran, and [marijuana] is what saved my life." [Source]
