Toronto pitcher picks pit bull's happiness over living with his family
2/17/2013Slater must be one irresistible dog. Mark Buerhle's family is so attached to the bulldog-and-American-Staffordshire-Terrier mix that they'll be spending the summer with the 2-year-old pooch and not the man of the house. It's all because of a trade that sent the veteran pitcher from Miami to the Toronto Blue Jays over the winter, combined with Ontario's ban on pit bulls. Buerhle won't fight the law or fob the dog off on friends in America, so his wife and children will split time between homes in Florida and St. Louis while he pitches in Canada. Buehrle acknowledges that non-dog people won't grasp leaving "your kids behind over a dog." Then again, maybe Dad lost a family vote. [Source]
