Mars Rover landing will be '7 minutes of terror,' says NASA

8/6/2012

In case you didn’t hear, NASA is attempting to land the one-ton Curiosity rover on the red planet Sunday at 10:31 PST, and it’s apparently going to be very difficult. So difficult in fact, the landing sequence has been dubbed “Seven Minutes of Terror” because that’s how long it will take to go from the top of Mars’ atmosphere to its surface. And it takes 14 minutes for the signal from the spacecraft to make it to Earth, so no one will know what happened for a while. Talk about suspense! This video should be considered the trailer for the event, but if you want to check it out, the whole thing will be televised on NASA TV.
