Martin Luther King Jr. family asked Obama to sign their Bible
1/21/2013Barack Obama placed his hand on two Bibles during today's swearing-in ceremony, and both were full of personal, political and social considerations. One belonged to Abraham Lincoln, and the other was provided by the family of Martin Luther King Jr. The moment must have also been pretty meaningful for the King family, because they asked the president and Chief Justice John Roberts to sign the late civil rights leader's Bible. King delivered his "I Have a Dream speech" 50 years ago, and Inauguration Day fell on the federal holiday in honor of King. This was the first time his Bible was used in an inauguration ceremony.
