Music lovers mourn Marva Whitney, James Brown's Soul Sister No. 1

1/2/2013

Marva Whitney, who was once nicknamed Soul Sister No. 1 by James Brown himself, died Dec. 22 at the age of 68. The news was slow to spread until the New York Times reported on it this morning. Whitney was a featured member of the James Brown Revue, singing both her own solo songs and duets with Brown. After leaving the review in 1969, Whitney's career went dormant for several decades, but began a recent resurgence thanks to a collaboration with Japanese funk group Osaka Monaurail in 2006. [Source]
