Doctor refuses to treat overweight patient for safety reasons
8/28/2012Ida Davidson is admittedly overweight. The Massachusetts woman weighs more than 200 pounds, but she never thought her weight would cost her a doctor. Davidson said that during her second visit to Dr. Helen M. Carter last week, Carter told her not to bother coming back – on account of her weight. Davidson said she is a “little overweight” and believes she is too "high risk" for Carter. The doctor said she refused to treat Davidson out of "preservation for herself and her employees." After several members of Carter's staff sustained injuries while treating overweight patients, she instituted a weight limit for prospective clients. [Source]
